About Extremadura

Lake Garcia Sola
The region is bordered by the provinces of Castilla y León to the north, Toledo and Castilla la Mancha (Don Quixote country ) to the east, Andalucia to the south and Portugal to the west, the region boasts the second largest lake in Europe, the embalse de Serena, actually classed as an inland sea, of course  there are many more large lakes all teeming with fish waiting for the angler.
These lakes can also be used for all kinds of water sport, leaving the lakes in the valleys, we head up the hills covered with forests of pine and an abundance of wildlife, from deer to wild boar and many more species (we cannot tell you everything, the fun is  investigate for yourselves); the walks in the hills range from beginner to experienced, starting from the lower valleys, you walk through lush fields of grass and oak trees, where many species of flowers grow, here the honey bees are busy collecting pollen (this area is also famous for its natural honey), reaching the summit of the mountain range, the views are breathtaking.

Casas de Don Pedro
This province is so much like parts of Scotland, Wales, the Pennines and the lake district of England, with its dry stone walls you can be excused thinking that you are still in England, until you look up and see the sun shining.
Extremadura is an immensely rich natural paradise; a special region of unspoilt natural beauty and heritage, today, when such places are hard to find in Europe, we have it all here on our doorstep.

Extremadura’s cultural heritage is the legacy of the various civilizations which have lived in the Iberian Peninsula, and is still in evidence today; the gastronomy, festivals and local traditions have survived down the centuries and still form part of everyday life.
Extremadura is a land of great contrast and variety. The climate is basically Mediterranean with influence from the Atlantic, with very hot summers and mild winters. The result is a rich variety of natural landscapes, with an abundance of lakes and rivers. (In fact, Extremadura has more inland “coast” than any other region in Western Europe).
In these nature reserves you can see many breeds of birds, from the black vulture and Imperial eagle to the thousands of storks that arrive each year, and not forgetting the great bustard, a treat for the serious twitchers.
